Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal that is known as"the West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island to the west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities that are Lachine and West. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I grew out of my male counterparts, I gave up. The Brugel is one of the former dancers that turned to acting. Her teacher from high school encouraged her to take the next step. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. She was given the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program and graduated at the age of 20 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Her career spans 20 years and she's appeared in 60 different productions, both on big screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was the one of Rita (pictured beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in Season 1 and was only seen at times.
